Birds and Trees Day quiz
“On 31 March 2023, the Hungarian Ornithological Society of Kaposvár organized the Birds and Trees Day nature conservation quiz. Six teams entered the competition, among them three young students of the Nagybajom 3 group (Kamilla Nagy, Evelin Buzsáki and László Kristóf Tóth). The application for the competition is the result of a long-term process, as the group’s goal was to learn about and love nature.
The curriculum of the competition was divided into five major parts a month and a half ago and we prepared week by week with the help of Zalán Győző (a student of finance and accounting at the University of Pécs). The children took tests to test their knowledge and were selected on the basis of these tests. Three other members of our group (Leila Vanessza Orsós, Niké Váradi and Réka Huszár) also started to interpret and study the materials, but for them it was more of a recreational and educational activity. They were also very skilful, and we wondered if they should compete, but the students who eventually took part in the competition felt more ownership of the material, so we were able to select them for the final team.
The three Year 6 students were enthusiastic throughout the preparation period. There were some difficult parts, such as recognising bird calls, but they managed to overcome the obstacles. They now know a lot about birds such as the starling, the swallowtail butterfly, the alpine newt, the venice plover and the Danube-Ipoly National Park. So our team was ready for the competition, in Kaposvár everything was already on their shoulders, but the final ranking was not the first priority, but the knowledge gained and the experiences gained during the competition. Congratulations kids, you did a great job, it was a great week to have behind us.” Zalán Győző Nb3
