Foreign Language Camp Crikvenica

“Just like in previous years, the foreign language camp in Crikvenica was held again this year.

After a long journey, the team arrived on Sunday afternoon in the Croatian coastal town, where we settled into our accommodation. Following dinner, many walked down to the sea with the joy of familiarity, while others did so with the excitement of novelty. On the beach, our language teachers—Peter Holly, Zsuzsanna Hamlin, and James Kremer—once again prepared some icebreaker games, which got the participants moving in every sense of the word and set the tone for the coming days.

Part of each day was spent with themed English classes, which were held in 3 groups with the help of 3 language instructors. The main focus was the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and the topics were built around this. We discussed the harmful effects of plastics, the consequences of the destruction of wildlife, the unacceptable amount of waste, preserving health, and many other topics that should form a part of basic knowledge. Moreover, it was not just about talking, but actively doing something about it as well. Due to both my interest and my degree, this topic is very close to my heart, and I hope that in the future, even greater emphasis will be placed on this, reflecting in actions as well. The projects presented at the end of the camp aimed to have each team organize a debate, a campaign, or a play on a related topic, proposing solutions to certain problems.

After classes, we spent our time in downtown Crikvenica or on the beach, but we also made time for an excursion to the Plitvice Lakes and a boat trip to the island of Krk.”
