Máté Varga

My name is Máté Varga. I was born in Kaposvár in 1985, but practically since birth, I have been living in Somogysárd. I completed my secondary education in Kaposvár, and then began my higher education studies in 2004 in History and Archaeology at the University of Pécs, supplemented with teacher training. I graduated with a degree in Archaeology in 2010, and from then on my work was mostly connected to archaeology, spending the most time, more than 12 years, working at the Rippl-Rónai Museum in Kaposvár. Alongside the varied archaeological and museum work, there were always tasks that were connected in some form to education and children, such as tutoring, preparation for high school graduation exams, museum pedagogy programs, or public science lectures.

Due to my profession, history and archaeology play a major role in my life; I am an enthusiastic local patriot who strives to get to know the values in our environment as best as possible. Here I do not only mean historical values, but the smaller and larger wonders found in nature are also close to my heart. One of my elements is hiking, taking trips, traveling, and sightseeing. This is also why I often organize hikes and trips for smaller and larger groups, and on occasion, I also provide guided tours for larger groups. In addition, sports played/play an important role in my life, and I also try to pass on the love of movement to the younger generation.

I have been in contact with the Csányi Foundation for nearly 15 years. Initially, I participated in programs and summer camps as a volunteer, and helped with history skills development. Later, I was present in projects as a development teacher, and in addition, we ran a Hiking Club at the Kaposvár Community House. At the end of 2025, I was pleased to take on the mentorship of the Kaposvár 3 group. My new role fills me with great excitement and curiosity, because although I am roughly familiar with the work going on at the Foundation, this now involves many more tasks. From now on, helping my 17 “children” is a great responsibility, but I believe that with the help of my colleagues and parents, I will do everything to unfold and develop their talents, and give them guidance that will help them succeed later in life.
