We set off for Tokaj on Sunday morning; the group from Kaposvár picked up the participants from Mohács on the way, and then those from Szeged joined us in Budapest. After the long journey, we arrived safely at our destination in the afternoon, where the camp officially began. After settling into their accommodation, the children relaxed in the pool to shake off the fatigue of the long day. Everyone is excitedly looking forward to the shared adventures, new experiences, and friendships that will hopefully be formed during the week.
Day 2:
On Monday, the camp’s first language sessions began, with the children working together in smaller groups. During the morning, they got to know each other through playful, interactive activities, while gradually getting a glimpse into the camp’s weekly theme. A great atmosphere was ensured by various language games, such as word chains, hangman, and short video tasks, which not only put their existing knowledge to use but also provided opportunities to learn new expressions and practice communication.
Following lunch, the team went on a pleasant boat cruise. From the deck of the boat, we could admire the town from a completely different perspective while listening to an interesting presentation about the settlement’s historical past, the significance of the surrounding rivers, as well as their natural and economic roles.
Due to the extremely hot weather, the afternoon continued with a refreshing swim in the pool, which the children welcomed with great joy. The shared swimming session offered a chance to relax, play, and discuss the experiences gained during the day. After dinner, we went on a short sightseeing walk, during which we could admire the town’s evening atmosphere and some of its sights. By the end of this meaningful and experience-rich day, everyone was pleasantly tired and excitedly anticipating the next camp programs.
Day 3:
We started the day in Sátoraljaújhely, where our first program was a visit to the Museum of the Hungarian Language. The museum is located in a special place, as this area was once the estate of Ferenc Kazinczy, who also gave the name Széphalom to this part of the settlement. During the interactive exhibition, the children learned about the life and work of Ferenc Kazinczy and gained insight into the era of the language reform and its significance. In addition, they heard interesting details about Sándor Petőfi’s travels and wanderings, which also form an important part of the history of Hungarian literature.
We spent the afternoon at the Zemplén Adventure Park, where everyone could find the program most exciting for them. The children tried the bobsleigh track with great enthusiasm, which provided an exciting experience, while the chairlift offered a beautiful panoramic view of the Zemplén Mountains and the surrounding landscape.
Due to the excessively hot weather, we were unable to carry out the planned trip to Sárospatak this time. However, we quickly reorganized the program, so the youth spent the rest of the afternoon in a great mood playing board games and taking a pleasant walk along the waterfront. Although the day ultimately turned out differently than originally planned, the participants still gained many experiences, and we closed another meaningful, happy day together.
Day 4:
On Wednesday morning, colleagues from BluePixel held interactive sessions for the children. The participants could try their hand at several exciting stations, such as gaining insight into the process of creating tattoos, where they could test different techniques on synthetic skin. Additionally, they got a glimpse behind the scenes of filmmaking, learning about preparation for shoots, camera operations, and the intriguing aspects of film work. During the communication sessions, they could develop their cooperation and presentation skills through playful situational exercises, laughing a lot and gaining new experiences in the process.
Following lunch, language learning took center stage once again. During the afternoon language classes, the children worked in smaller groups, practicing what they had learned through diverse, playful, and skill-building activities. The tasks served not only to expand vocabulary and improve communication but also encouraged the participants to use their foreign language skills confidently in various situations.
After dinner, the junior mentors prepared an exciting, multi-station competition for the campers. The teams tested their knowledge and skills in various logical, historical, and creative challenges. The stations required not only quick thinking and utilizing acquired knowledge but also cooperation and teamwork. During the fun competition, everyone actively participated in the challenges, ending the day with an experience-filled joint program.
Day 5:
On Thursday, a full-day excursion awaited the campers, with the destination being the Nyíregyháza Animal Park. The children were free to explore the zoo in smaller groups while getting to know many unique animal species. During the walk, they toured different themed areas of the park, where they could observe animals from various parts of the world up close. The visit was not only rich in experiences but also provided an opportunity for the participants to gain interesting knowledge about nature conservation, animal lifestyles, and habitats.
After lunch, we spent the remainder of the afternoon with more casual programs. Given the intense heat, the children cooled off with a pleasant swim in the pool, and then the day continued with board games, conversations, and relaxing together.
The evening program was organized by the junior mentors, who prepared an exciting treasure hunt game for the teams. The children had to cooperate within their previously formed groups to find as many hidden words as possible around the camp area. Successfully completing the task required not only attentiveness and speed but also great teamwork and clever strategy. The fun competition was a wonderful way to close the day, which once again held many shared experiences and memorable moments for all participants.
Day 6:
On Friday, the last full day of the camp continued with a variety of programs. During the morning, the team split into two: while one group enjoyed a cozy horse-drawn carriage ride, the other group got to try canoeing. The two teams swapped places at a pre-arranged meeting point, so every camper had the opportunity to try both activities. During the carriage ride, participants could admire the natural beauty of the area, while canoeing provided a great opportunity for active movement.
The afternoon continued with language sessions, where the children deepened their knowledge through playful and creative tasks. Alongside grammar exercises, they created various artworks about Tokaj and their camp experiences, allowing them to freely unleash their creativity. After studying, a bit of relaxation followed: the children walked together to get ice cream and then spent time playing sports on the nearby football pitch.
For the evening, the junior mentors prepared a fun camp-closing quiz. The teams had to answer questions related to the week’s events, allowing them to jointly recall the most memorable programs and experiences. The quiz was followed by another exciting treasure hunt, which once again required cooperation and sharp observation skills. At the end of the evening, the results were announced, and prizes were handed out, fittingly concluding a content-rich camp full of experiences.
