Today, the Health Camp for Group 3 officially began. The camp aims to provide the children with more information about a healthy lifestyle and to motivate them to maintain it. Working in groups of four, the children received a project task for the week. Following some research, they will give a presentation at the end of the camp on a topic related to healthy living. Four topics will be covered: healthy nutrition, physical activity, harmful addictions, and mental health.
Today, the children already started their preparations and drafted the outlines for their presentations. Afterward, they participated in a dance session where they could get some exercise to their favorite tunes. During the camp, they will also learn about regulating their emotions, discover the beneficial effects of singing bowls, and a physiotherapist will join them as well. The sixth-grade students arrived at the camp with plenty of energy and are looking forward to the week’s programs with great excitement.
Throughout the week, the group members were able to get acquainted with various aspects of a healthy lifestyle. From the very beginning of the week, the campers were working enthusiastically: they put a lot of effort into preparing their project presentations, which resulted in a vibrant array of colorful posters. At the end of the week, they proudly presented these to their peers, the junior mentors, and the mentors from Mohács.
Beyond the project work, physical health and exercise also played a prominent role. The children participated in a physiotherapy session led by physiotherapists from BEK, where they gained valuable insights into the role of the spine, muscle function, and correct posture. In addition, they acquired useful knowledge about healthy nutrition and the prevention of harmful habits.
Alongside physical activity, great emphasis was placed on maintaining mental and emotional health. The campers learned about singing bowls and their calming, healing effects, followed by a group singing bowl relaxation session, as well as the basics of meditation and yoga. They learned what stress means and how to cope with everyday tension using breathing exercises. Furthermore, a 10-session program kicked off for them this week, where they can learn about emotion regulation through play.
After covering so many important and serious topics, well-deserved recreation was not left out either: the children enthusiastically watched the movie Minions and Monsters at the cinema. During the Health Camp, the participants gained comprehensive and useful knowledge on preserving their physical, mental, and emotional health, which will support them in their daily lives over the long run.
