On Friday, September 25, 2026, the Szeged groups also joined the Researchers’ Night event series. First, we visited the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged, where we explored the world of robotics and mechatronics. As in previous years, we concluded the evening at the Tudáskapu (Gate of Knowledge): we learned about essential oils and gained insight into the organizational levels of vertebrate organisms.
On Friday after school, we gathered at the Community House and set off together for the Researchers’ Night programs. Our first location was the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Szeged, which we visited for the first time this year. The organizers prepared a diverse and experience-packed program for us. The children participated in interactive robotics demonstrations and laboratory tours: they could observe humanoid robots and industrial robotic arms in operation, and even try them out. They found it particularly interesting how robots perceive their environment, recognize objects, and respond to external stimuli. In the demonstrations on artificial intelligence and machine vision, they also learned how robot cameras process images in real time, avoid obstacles, sort objects, and execute more complex instructions. They gained insight into the world of automated systems and pneumatics as well: they became acquainted with the programmable logic controllers that guide modern production lines, as well as the operation of compressed-air vehicles. The spectacular, practical demonstrations kept everyone engaged: the children asked questions with great interest, enjoyed trying out the devices, and all came away enriched with many new experiences.
After visiting the Faculty of Engineering, a short dinner followed before we headed to the SZTE JGYPK Tudáskapu venue. Here, we explored the world of essential oils and gained insight into the organizational levels of vertebrate animals.
Throughout the fulfilling afternoon, the children grew closer to technical and natural science knowledge in a playful, experiential way. The varied programs, interactive demonstrations, and shared experiences made this year’s Researchers’ Night memorable for us.
