This year, Nagybajom celebrates the 25th anniversary of its designation as a town, an occasion marked on August 8 with the presentation of awards and certificates to the town’s most prominent figures. It was a wonderful feeling to watch live as our operational director, dr. Miklós Radoszáv, and the three mentors from Nagybajom—Szilvi, Andris, and Roland—received this prestigious award on behalf of the Csányi Foundation.
However, the morning was memorable not only for this reason. During the high-quality, two-hour ceremony, I gained a deeper understanding of the town’s history and culture, and the twin towns—Gyergyószárhegy from Transylvania and Virje from Croatia—were introduced as well. I was surprised by how many people attended; it truly shows how strong and cohesive the Nagybajom community is.
Alongside the foundation, several civil organizations and many private individuals were also honored. This town is so multifaceted that whether it is the great Town Days, the storks, or even the occasional World War II landmines that turn up, Nagybajom immediately comes to my mind.
Yet among all the shared memories, what matters most to me is that it was here 13 years ago that I was selected for the foundation. This is where I started, I received immense support, and here is where I found myself. In my view, this organization absolutely deserved the award: by helping local and surrounding talented but disadvantaged children, they not only set a great example but also build a fantastic community.
