My name is Julie Chen

I am from Taiwan, a small island apart from mainland China. It may or may not be a part of China.

I was born as a Taiwanese but I spent most of my 19 years life in mainland China. When I became a college student I moved from a province in southern Asia to Beijing a northern province in China and also its capital city.

In Beijing, there are so many foreigners, especially Caucasian. I saw the differences between us and them and heard about the beauty of Hungary, the UK, and Austria from them. Also I was a big fan of Hollywood movies which show a lot of scenes of Europe. Finally now I am here.

China is 100 times bigger than Hungary and the population is 130 times of that in Hungary. It’s really a much more crowded place compared to Hungary. I find it cozy here.

I arrived in Szeged two days ago. I lived in the foundation house. I haven’t seen the kids yet but the more I knew about The Csányi Foundation, the more excited I became. The foundation seems systematic and Zoli, one of the mentors of the kids and my host is considerate and nice.

I hope I will be helpful to the kids and hope they like me as they like the last volunteer Yina. This volunteering work will make my time in Hungary more meaningful.

Julie
