Swimming Camp Pécs

On July 27, 2026, the swim camp for future sixth-graders of the Pécs 2 group began. The enthusiastic team of twelve, accompanied by six junior mentors, set off for the week, the primary goal of which was to improve swimming technique at the Pécs Hullámfürdő. Every day, the morning swimming lessons were made even more colorful by a variety of afternoon programs, organized and led by Emese Hegedűs, a staff member of the NMI.

The mornings are filled with swimming lessons, where participants can master correct swimming movements step by step, while their self-confidence and water safety continuously improve.

The afternoon programs offer diverse recreation for the children. On the first day of camp, the Laser Corner hosted an exciting laser tag battle, where participants were divided into two teams and could test their skills and teamwork under the guidance of the junior mentors.

On Tuesday, the children took part in an animal welfare session and a search-and-rescue dog demonstration. With great enthusiasm, they hid from the search dogs, which successfully found them every single time. During the demonstration, they gained a lot of interesting knowledge, learning, among other things, that a dog can memorize and recognize up to 10 million different scents for the rest of its life.

On Wednesday, they became acquainted with the era of the Hungarian conquest and the folk crafts of that time. Wet felting was a particularly big hit, as it proved to be a genuinely pleasant and creative activity in the summer heat.

On Thursday afternoon, the team went on an adventure at the Mecsextrém Park. In the cool shade of the forest, everyone found a challenge to their liking: they climbed, crawled, rode the bobsled, and tried out countles games of skill.

On Friday, the extreme heat tested the campers, so they were especially glad to spend the afternoon once again in a pleasant, cool environment at the Community House. This time, Emese Hegedűs introduced the children to the world of natural fiber crafting: they learned about straw weaving and making corn husk dolls.

By the end of the camp, all the children had mastered what they learned during the week, so they can now swim with confidence in the future.
