Lithuanian adventure

Last week, I had the chance to visit Lithuania, where I went to see a dear friend who is spending the semester there as part of the ERASMUS program. As soon as the plane landed in Vilnius, we headed to a local restaurant. On the way, the first thing that caught my eye was the orderliness of the streets: everything was very spacious and well-kept. The capital gave the impression of a charming small town, with plenty of trees and green spaces refreshing my view. This was true for all the towns we visited.

As for the local food, it is quite heavy and oily. Honestly, I couldn’t finish my first lunch, even though I gave it my best shot. After a short sightseeing tour in the capital, we headed towards the seaside, as we planned a bike tour along the Baltic Sea. In Klaipėda (a seaside port city), we rented bicycles and started our journey along the coast. To my surprise, the Lithuanian section of the Baltic Sea coastline was entirely sandy, as if we were somewhere in Central America. The only difference was that I waded into the water up to my knees and quickly ran out because it was so freezing. My plane was departing from Vilnius, so on the last day, we traveled back to the capital. After a final quick city tour, my plane took off for home. I’m glad I had the opportunity to visit Lithuania and get to know the local people and culture.
