Cultural Adventures through times

On Friday afternoon, after the ICDL exam preparation session, we stayed in the Community House to spend the evening together, and even stayed overnight. We had long conversations about high school and our new class, laughing a lot. As usual, we prepared dinner together, and thanks to the favorable weather, we were able to enjoy some outdoor grilling. This was followed by the essential Kahoot game, with the quiz questions once again put together by our “quiz master,” Balázs Nagy. We played board games and watched a movie for the rest of the evening.

On Saturday, we headed to Csongrád, where Márti néni organized our cultural day. The Tari László Museum, which preserves the ethnographic, historical, archaeological, and artistic treasures of the city of Csongrád, was founded 100 years ago and has been in continuous operation since 1956. The exhibition we viewed was titled Csongrád, the Flower of the Black Castle. As explained by Dorka Néni, our volunteer who works at the museum, the title refers to the resilience and enduring strength of the town, which always revives from its ruins. The city was built before the Hungarian conquest and was destroyed by the Tatars in 1242. The Flower of the Black Castle is a symbol of Csongrád’s history. The exhibition presents the history of the city from prehistoric times to the regime change.

We continued our cultural adventure by visiting the traditional houses of Csongrád. The museum-like building is part of a street of 23 houses, all under historical monument protection, as we learned from the lady guiding the tour. We were shown a simply furnished kitchen, room, and pantry, and we also got a glimpse into the farm buildings. We sat on the oven bench, Bori played the zither, and for a little while, we traveled back in time. From the traditional house, we headed to the Körös-torok area and took a short walk. We concluded the day with a communal lunch.
