The past on the runway

Some of the Foundation’s grantees in Szentes are in contact with the Tari László Museum in Csongrád due to their research in the fields of archaeology, history and ethnography. They are working diligently to prepare for the exhibition in which their research will also be presented and will be on display in 2026. This time, however, they visited the institution for a different reason, where they participated in a special program.

The national program of the Autumn Festival of Museums here focused on the housing and clothing culture of the recent and more distant past. In this context, young people from Jászság, Lotti Berkecz and Fanni Sebesi from Szentes took part in an unusual fashion show. The three girls wore pieces by a young but increasingly popular designer, who creates sweaters, ponchos, women’s dresses and ball gowns, which many say bring the world of folk tales to life. The aim of creating everyday, comfortable, cheerful and lively clothes for young people, inspired by Hungarian tradition, patterns and forms, is for as many people of this age group as possible to wear them and thus show others the treasures of our folk culture. During the presentation, the message became clear to the large audience that traditional folk art elements can be made usable and trendy for today, meaning that tradition can also be cool. -Mentor Sándor Kovács, Szentes 1.
