Refreshing Saturday

We arrived at the community centre at 8:45am on Saturday, April 1st. The session, held by Marci Sebők, started at 9 am. He was assisted on this occasion by Gábor Berta. We talked about fake news during the first half of the session. First we reviewed the material from the previous session. Together we discussed how to recognize if a site or news is real or fake. Then Gábor showed us a website where different sites that publish fake news were collected. We compared such a page with a more real website and determined the difference between them according to criteria. We then also completed a quiz to see how well we could tell whether the information we found on websites was true or false by looking at their titles. In the second half of the session, we talked about debating. We looked at the concept and watched a video about how to and how not to debate. At the end of the session, two of our partners tried out how to argue. They were given a topic and had two or three minutes to formulate their arguments on the topic. At the end of the session, we went up to the English room and analysed the theatre performance we had watched on 19 March. We discussed what we had seen and evaluated the performance. Then we prepared lunch, set the table and had lunch together. After lunch, one of my partners, Fanni Török, gave us a presentation about books. She brought eleven books, all of which she talked a little about. She also allowed us to take the ones we liked. After the lecture was over, we went outside and picked some plants, as our next item on the agenda was egg dyeing. It was very exciting, but we didn’t get to see the final result yet as we have to wait a day for the eggs to be coloured. We used natural dye that my mentor had made herself. There was a choice of black tea, turmeric, beetroot, red onion peel and purple cabbage soup. This technique of egg painting is called basting. Last but not least, we had a little mentoring session. Our day ended here. Afterwards, everyone went home with new experiences.
