On September 28, students from Pécs Group 3 and Pécs Group 1 were able to participate in two exciting city programs that were not only entertaining, but inspiring and educational as well.
The first stop was the Learning City event, held for the 10th jubilee time. The special feature of this year’s program was given by the 200th anniversary of Mór Jókai’s birth, in connection with which the National Institute of Culture organized a playful competition. The boys’ and girls’ teams enthusiastically threw themselves into the challenges, where tricky questions thoroughly tested their knowledge and creativity. The close competition ultimately ended in a tie, so every participant could feel like a winner.
After the ceremonial opening of the event, the students were able to listen to an impressive performance by the Pannon Philharmonic. The special atmosphere of the music captivated everyone, serving as a reminder of the power culture holds in connecting people.
However, the day was far from over. The evening program was hosted by the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Pécs, where the young people gained insight into the exciting world of science. They were able to try the animal tactile zoo, participate in the “Hotline to Your Body” program, learn about misconceptions regarding animals, put together a molecule puzzle, and discover how geology appears in our everyday lives. Meanwhile, a lecture presenting exotic grape varieties offered a special taste of nature’s diversity.
To conclude the day, participants attended the lecture titled “The Mathematics of the Mooble Game,” which demonstrated that mathematics plays an exciting and creative role in the world of games as well. At the end of the lecture, our team enjoyed a special moment of joy: Dávid Stefán, a member of Pécs Group 1, won a Mooble game as a reward for his successful participation.
Learning does not only happen at a school desk, as today clearly proved. The shared experiences, new knowledge, and achievements all contribute to helping our students become more open, confident, and motivated.
We spent a fantastic day together, and we are already certain: we will not miss this special opportunity next year either!
