Balaton Legends Come to Life in Kaposvár

On November 23, the Csányi Foundation’s Kaposvár 1st group worked on their Balaton project at the Kaposvár Digital Knowledge Center. As part of the Balaton project, the young participants bring the rich world of Hungarian folk traditions to life through animated films, inspired by Balaton legends.

The project’s goal is not only to develop creativity but also to preserve the local cultural heritage. The children draw inspiration from myths that have enriched the history of the Balaton region for centuries. By creating animation films, the group members are given the opportunity to work with modern technologies to adapt traditional stories, while acquiring new skills in the process.

During the late November session, the group continued working on character and background designs using the Inkscape graphic software. Inkscape proved to be a great tool for the young participants to bring their ideas to life, while also learning the basics of digital design. The designed graphics were then cut out using a laser cutter.

The laser cutter not only enabled precise and quick work but also gave the children a chance to see how what they had previously only designed digitally became tangible. These finished elements will be used during the animation shoot, allowing the participants to experience the entire creative process.

The Balaton project not only develops creativity and technological skills but also provides a community experience for the participants.

“I really enjoyed working on Saturday. We worked a lot on our characters and backgrounds, which will help us create the animation film. During the last session, we designed the film’s characters, which is a very exciting story. This Saturday, we finished the backgrounds and the characters, and we also painted them. We also designed the plastic holder in 3D that will hold the background in place.” – Budavári Ramóna, Kaposvár 1st group

The group’s work continues, and we can’t wait to see the wonderful creations that will come to life based on the Balaton legends.
