Within the Maker’s Red Box: City of the Future project, work continued with the tenth graders of Szentes. By now, quite a few of our buildings have taken shape from the monitor’s design interface, so we focused on new areas. This time, the young people, having become familiar with the programming possibilities of the micro:bit and using them, tried to satisfy the urban automation needs they had formulated. For example, twilight and motion-sensing public lighting, a temperature-, light- or soil moisture-sensitive irrigation system in agricultural areas, and an emergency alarm system between the power plant and the city hospital could be important in the city of the future. These are just a few examples of everything we are trying to model so that our planned living space is as comfortable, safe and modern as possible. In addition to programming skills, soldering was also required for physical implementation. We also reached a milestone in the field of urban planning and operation, and we elected a mayor who communicates, organizes, coordinates and manages with the specialists in each area of responsibility. It won’t take that long and the models will be in place and the electronic devices will be installed. -Mentor Sándor Kovács, Szentes 1.
