Health Camp in Pécs

Today marked the start of the health camp in Pécs. We have an eventful week ahead! In the mornings, the junior mentors will introduce the group to the concept of mental health, as well as the theory and practice of physical exercise, through interactive discussions. They will also cover topics important at this age, such as hair and skin care, and oral hygiene. We will be visited by staff from the Buda Health Center – and even an Olympic champion! Of course, a bit of physical activity will also be part of the program.

Throughout the week, participants can look forward to adventure games at iconic locations in Pécs, such as the Cathedral and the Mosque. There will also be a creative program where everyone can paint their own uniquely patterned mug. Movie time is on the agenda as well, along with making salads from fresh fruit and vegetables, enjoying ice cream, and relaxing – because this camp is not only about health but also about joy and spending time together informally. We have been looking forward to this week!

“This week, the children gained important knowledge and experiences. Throughout the week, they worked with the junior mentors on topics such as the importance of regular physical exercise, mental health, and various aspects of general hygiene, including skin care, hair care, dental care, and other everyday essentials such as the proper use of toilets. Since healthy living also involves our human relationships, we developed communication skills as well. Alongside this, we made sure to stay active – we warmed up together, the children invented a varied workout routine which they then carried out, and we even held sit-up and push-up competitions! Naturally, play also played a big role, so we ended up with games like number war and Twister to burn off any remaining energy.

We were also delighted to welcome guests during the week. Tímea Nagy, two-time Olympic champion épée fencer, visited us and shared her life story, the challenges she faced, and the lessons success – and occasional setbacks – taught her. I believe she is a truly great example of how far perseverance and hard work can take someone, even if others do not initially see their talent. From the Buda Health Center, we also welcomed two physiotherapists, Ágnes Szabó and Teodóra Soósné Zimmer, who spoke about the body, focusing particularly on the spine. After reviewing the most important theoretical aspects together – such as the structure of the spine and its different sections – we performed various exercises and stretches. The children carried out the activities with great enthusiasm and were understandably tired by the end.

In the afternoons, we surprised the children with different activities to add variety. We visited the Cathedral and the Mosque of Pasha Gazi Kasim, where, with the help of a worksheet, they had to find various details while exploring and learning about the most famous churches of Pécs. We also unleashed our creativity with mug painting, and for a bit of relaxation, we watched a French comedy, Trouble at Timpetill, at the cinema. Naturally, the warm weather was made sweeter with ice cream! We thank our mentors and the Csányi Foundation for another joyful week together – we are already looking forward to the next one!”
