Yina Chua volunteer form Singapore has come to visit the Community House in Szeged to introduce her country to the Csányi students of Szeged and help them to improve their communication skills in English.
Yina arrived from Pécs to Szeged on Sunday afternoon. She got accustomed very quickly in Community House. During the rest of the day we discussed the upcoming programmes for this week.
Monday morning the town was covered with fog but it did not spoil our enthusiasm and Yina was ready to see the sights of Szeged. We started the tour at the oldest building complex of Szeged, the Franciscan order’s church, which was followed by a short visit to the university centre and then we went to see the flood monument at the bank of River Tisza. We continued our stroll along the main promenade of the town, River Tisza. Early afternoon the fog lifted and we enjoyed a little sunshine as we walked along Tisza Lajos ring road. We saw the ‘Old Lady’, the oldest water tower of the town and after a short break we visited the synagogues of Szeged. From here, we headed to Dóm square where we met some Csányi students and we continued our sightseeing tour in dóm church. Our guide had a short presentation about the history of the church in English, which was a good language lesson for everyone. We also climbed the 286 stairs up to the tower of the church where beautiful autumn view welcomed us and we could see the sights from high above. Everyone was fascinated by the view and the students got brave enough to start talking with Yina. As they got over their fears, the students were more and more enquiring about Yina and her country.
The day was closed with a light dinner and we also discussed next day’s programme when Yina is going to have English lessons about her home.
