“What will I be when I grow up”
On the last Saturday of 27 January, we gathered for a “Milestones” project day at the Szentes Community House. On this Saturday, we borrowed from a “living library” with our mentor. We are 8th graders, about to continue our education, beyond the central entrance exam, but before submitting our career choice form. This could change our decision about where we want to go and which school we want to go to. We had the chance to hear some successful career choices from our invited – “borrowed” – guests. Among the participants were a police captain, a teacher, a social worker, a psychologist and the manager of a local OTP bank branch. During the morning, we were able to learn about the path – sometimes full of pitfalls – our guests have taken to get to their current jobs. The stories showed us that career choices play an important role in our lives, but that we always need to learn and grow, whether within a profession or trying out new ones. This is how we will find the most suitable vocation for us and the one we enjoy. After lunch, we continued the afternoon with a mentoring session, talking about the results of the central written test, and then in the IT room, using a “browser”, our mentor asked us to solve different tasks, gather information – for a time – and whoever was faster was awarded a prize at the end of the day. Once again, we had a fun and meaningful Saturday day together.” Balázs Nagy, Szentes Group 2
