I Earned My Economics Degree in Finance and Accounting
My name is Zalán Győző, and I am a member of the Nagybajom Group 3 of the Foundation. I have reached a significant milestone in my life: after three and a half years of hard work, I have received my economics degree in Finance and Accounting from the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Pécs. With this, I have also become a certified accountant.
My journey with the Foundation dates back to 2013 when I was accepted into the Csányi Foundation, of which I have been a proud member ever since. Over the past 12 years, I have experienced so much. I had the opportunity to participate in mathematics, English, reading comprehension, and drama classes, for which I am extremely grateful. These experiences were all invaluable and helped me acquire much more knowledge beyond what I learned in elementary and high school. I won’t deny that at times, it felt overwhelming, but I always knew that a greater goal was driving me forward and that I had to keep learning and progressing. After all, this is something no one can take away from me, and if you fight for it and never give up, you can achieve almost anything.
Through the Foundation, I was able to visit places I would never have had the chance to see otherwise. These community-building adventures mean a great deal to a child, and in comparison, homesickness becomes insignificant, and the support we receive becomes even more valuable. I had the chance to visit Sarlóspuszta, Tokaj, Balatonszemes, Veszprém, Telki, Zánka, and Őrvidék, as well as historically significant places like Sárospatak and Kőszeg. In addition to these trips and experiences, I also received valuable education in these picturesque locations.
The community you become a part of here is truly special. It feels like joining a new class, but it’s even more than that because this bond lasts far beyond four years. These are the connections that, if cherished, can last a lifetime. I also want to highlight the importance of the mentor-student relationship. My mentor, Roland, was not only a teacher I could look up to but also a friend I could always turn to. Moreover, we could teach each other, which is incredibly meaningful. Dr. Miklós Radoszáv, the Operational Director, also played a crucial role in supporting me. Despite having many students to guide, he always had time to assist me and followed my journey and development. I would also like to acknowledge Erika Csányi and Sándor Csányi, without whom these eventful and enriching 12 years would not have been possible. Not only did they create this supportive environment, but they continually demonstrate that investing in young people is worthwhile and that giving is more rewarding than receiving.
The relationship between students and the Foundation does not end there. We have the opportunity to give back a small portion of what we have received through community work. Reflecting on my years in the Foundation, a true milestone was when younger group members joined my life. Given my education, I already had a passion for mathematics, but when I recognize potential in certain children and feel the urge to guide them, challenge their limits, and help them fall in love with math, that is truly priceless.
Although it is impossible to fully repay what I have received from the Foundation, I strive to give back as much as I can. And at this stage in my life, I don’t see this as a burden but rather as a responsibility that I willingly embrace. Just as I was supported, the next generations also need guidance. All the effort is worth it because it gives children a better chance of achieving their dreams. Not to mention that the strong bonds formed with them will continue to grow, and we can always count on each other in the future.
These are the things the Foundation has given me, shaping me into the person I am today. There are no words to express my gratitude. However, my journey does not end here. I am continuing my studies in a master’s program in Finance, and just as I have done for the past fifteen and a half years, I will keep striving to bring out the best in myself and achieve outstanding results. I will also continue to support my mentor and younger group members in any way I can.
