Science Camp in Kőszeg
This year the 7th graders of the groups from Jászberény, Kaposvár and Pécs could take part in a science camp in Kőszeg from 5th to 13th July.
The nine-day educational camp’s first goal was to get to know the ‘National Park of Őrség and Fertő-Hanság’ and to deepen the students’ knowlegde about science. Besides the tours and experimenting in the lab, children were offered several other programmes where they could get to know the area’s historical background and its cultural values.
The first day of the camp began with a sightseeing, we could visit Castle Jurisics, the Keep of the Heroes and the city’s other important buildings.
On the second day, professional programmes began: firstly, we visited the Bechtold István Conservational Centre, where a lot of educational issues about nature were covered with the help of games. After our visit to this centre, our professional guide let us know about the Chernel garden’s flora and the bird hospital. Then we also examined the water of the streams.
On our third day, we went on a tour to Írott-stone and during our tour, we could get to know new species of plants.
After the 18 km tour, on our fourth day, we visited István Széchenyi’s castle in Nagycenk and we have also tried the bobsleigh run in Sopron. By the time, we got back to the dorms, our experiments were already prepared for us in the lab.
On the next day, we visited the Esterházy Castle in Fertőd, which was built in a barock-rococo stlye. In the afternoon, we took part in a great boat trip.
The camps programme went on with bird-binding and climbing the Rax peak.
At the end of the camp, with the help of a funny contest, we could figure out, which group knows more about the area’s flora and fauna.
We hope that all of the students would use this information in the near future.
