Adolescent frustrations and possible solutions
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, the Csányi Foundation Szeged Group 3 held its first Parents’ Academy lecture on the topic of adolescent “problems”, coping strategies and the biological, psychological and emotional aspects of adolescent children’s. The presentation was given by Eszter Tóthné Bolla, a psychologist, to the parents of the children in the group. Almost all the parents of the children were present at the almost two-hour presentation, which was of a high professional standard. The psychologist pointed out that adolescence has become much longer in the last 15-20 years, as it can start 2-3 years earlier. Adolescence is a heavy burden for both the child and the parent, both physically and psychologically. And adolescence can delay adulthood by up to 5-6 years. The presentation quickly turned into a very direct and interactive discussion, thanks to the personality and openness of the psychologist. This encouraged more parents to come forward with practical examples of problems with their adolescent child. The psychologist gave professional advice to the parents who asked questions, and she herself gave some practical examples and cases, which we tried to find the best solution together. I noticed that as time went by, more and more parents joined the discussion. We could talk for weeks about issues related to adolescence, but these almost two hours were enough time for the professional to discuss the most basic problems with the parents. After the presentation, the parents and their children enjoyed a lunch together in the Community House, thanks to the Foundation. We will continue to count on the psychologist’s professional advice and lectures on any subject.
