Freshmen Camp in Sarlóspuszta
The Csányi Foundation has launched three new groups this year, in Jászberény, Mohács and Pécs. An enthusiastic and cheerful group of children started their camp at the Club Hotel in Sarlóspusztai, led by Tamás Oláh, camp leader.
The children, who were strangers to each other on arrival, were divided into four teams, independent of Community Houses, so they quickly began to bond as a whole and lay the foundations for lifelong friendships.
After the first day of bonding, the second day was a Puszta Olympics, where the children tested their skills. Here they could try their hand at chariot pulling, horseshoe throwing and test their strength at tug-of-war. In the afternoon, drama sessions were given by three teachers, Angéla Vancsuráné Sárközi, Zsuzsanna Vida and Zoltán Papp, and later on, different sports were the focus. Mentor Assistants were on hand to play pool, football, and for the more creative children, arts and crafts.
By the third day, the children had fully embraced the learning methodology that complemented the drama sessions led by Piroska Szabóné André. In the evening, the young people took the Csányi Foundation oath and finally got to wear the Csányi T-shirt, which was handed over by Dr. Miklós Radoszáv, the Csányi Foundation’s operational director. After the solemn moments, the champagne toast was not missed, with non-alcoholic champagne for the kids and the group photo was taken, now in the brand new royal blue, orange and sunny yellow T-shirts.
On Wednesday morning, the children learned about the importance of first aid in the Airship programme, with everyone learning CPR and how to put people in a stable side position, as well as horse-drawn carriage rides, archery and target shooting.
Thursday and Friday were mainly devoted to the “Who? Knows? What?” . After the morning’s development sessions, our newcomers eagerly and persistently sought out our little mentors to help them succeed. This paid off on Friday evening, as we were able to hear and see the talents of the children in a very high quality show. Along with citera melodies, Attila József poems were sung, accompanied by a judo demonstration.
During the closing evening, prizes were awarded, the most successful team of the week was “xd”. The Mentor Assistants treated their youngest peers to a song and a slideshow summarising the most memorable moments of the past week. The children were so moved as they drew to the end of their first camp. The children had a great time and found it hard to say goodbye, but they knew that this was not the end, but the beginning of a wonderful journey.
