Farsang folk dance event
On the occasion of Farsang, a folk dance event took place at the Nagybajom Community House. Kriston József, Józsi, one of the house’s German language development teachers, shared stories from his past as a folk dancer with the children wearing funny headgear. He talked about various folk customs and traditional heritage activities. He demonstrated numerous dance steps, which most of us found more amusing than educational, as the children were hardly familiar with dances and cultures from the past.
For our enjoyment, the teacher even dressed up as an old man with a long beard, and in this costume, he performed his unique and special swineherd dance. As the event gained momentum, one of the younger members of the Nagybajom Group 3, Tímea Bogdán, enthusiastically presented a Romani dance she has been learning for many years in her hometown, Mezőcsokonya. She was very skilled, and several of us tried out the dance as well.
Laura Sándor, a university student from the Nagybajom Group 1, then gave a presentation on the Farsang season, helping everyone learn more about its origins, history, and traditions, especially in Hungary.
Finally, we crowned the day with delicious doughnuts, for which we extend our thanks to our volunteer, Tünde Horváthné Varga. These were the events that made this special project day truly enjoyable.
