The first Windows Farm is on the go
At the first natural scientific club (31 January) we built the first Windows farm of the Community House.
Based on the guidelines found on an English website, we tried to build a system in the Community House of Szeged that is self-supportive and relies only on the heat and light of the building and it is capable to grow plants without watering or fertilizing.
This idea was brand new not long ago. Its key importance is that in urban settings we are able to grow vegetables regardless of the weather circumstances all year around. In this system, well-known abroad, hydroponics irrigation system is used, in which the plants get continuous water supply with the help of a pump. We built the simplified version of this complex system from PET bottles and with the help of a fish tank pump. After deploying the whole system we planted basil and tomato seeds in the PET bottle beds.
During the upcoming few weeks we pay close attention to the system, we measure how much water evaporates and how much faster the seeds grow compared to the control group seeds.
