My Saturday in Nagybajom
I spent Saturday (9. February) in Nagybajom, speaking with the children in English.
I focused on those pupils who are preparing for official language exams – a group of four at B1 level and a group of three at B2 level. It was a very intellectually stimulating and enjoyable morning.
Our intensive work ensured that we not only covered many of the topics that they are currently studying, but also managed to revisit various topics from the past.
I have known many of the children now for two and a half years. We first met on a camp in Sarospatak in the summer of 2010, shortly after I first arrived in Hungary. The children are excellent to work with. Typically, they have fun and thoughtful dispositions which lend themselves to a ’can do’ attitude within the study sessions.
The community house in Nagybajom was built for purpose, so it has good floor plans and is very comfortable. When I spend Saturdays in Nagybajom, I usually travel down from Budapest by train the night before. I always sleep much better in the Nagybajom community house than in Budapest. It is wonderful to wake up to the silence of the countryside, rather than to the rumbling of the city traffic.
