Cranes watching in Szeged
On 15th November nature and photograph lover members of group 2 of Szeged travelled to Macskás field near Szatymaz in Kiskunsági National Park to watch the common cranes.
The goal of our trip was to watch and learn about the migrating and eating common cranes near Szeged when they return to their night sleeping places. We met nature lovers, expert photographers and the employees of the national park in front of Postakocsi csárda in Szatymaz. After a short plan discussion we headed to Macskás field where we were waiting for the arrival of the common cranes in small groups. After a short time, the autumn silence above the lakes was broken by the noise of the common cranes. The first, smaller group, was followed by many other cranes and this process lasted for until sunset. When the last few birds arrived to lake, our little group went back to the car and drove to the csárda to have our late afternoon dinner. During the lunch, Dr Boross Emil, manager of the national park gave us a brief lecture about the present state of experiments on common cranes.
