Language-camp in Berlin (Level B1, B2, C1)

Today (5th July) was the beginning of adventure for nine students of the Csányi Foundation in Berlin. The winners of the language competition can take part in a one-week-long language course in Berlin.

1st day – The long and hot day of summer was about travelling. The team started its way from Pécs to Kaposvár and then to the airport of Budapest. They landed in Berlin in the evening at Tegel Airport, where the employees of the language school had been waiting for them. There was a short journey by bus to our final destination. After dinner and taking up the accommodation it was time to relax as tomorrow the intense language learning will begin and we will conquer Berlin!

2nd day – First day in school! Being relaxed, everyone was excited to go to GLS language school. The group was divided into halves and they are learning German 4 hours a day with four native speaker teachers. The first day was about introducing ourselves and discussing some topics. In the afternoon we went for sightseeing. We could see the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the Bundestag, the monument of Holocaust. We were moving on the Unter den Linden line. We also visited the Alexander Platz and the Potsdamerplatz, where we could try Europe’s fastest spout to see Berlin from a higher place. Tomorrow after the lessons we will go on a journey again and visit a zoo.

3rd day – Despite the extreme heat, the group had a nice and meaty day today. As it was planned, after the language lessons in the morning, we went to the Tiergarten district in the afternoon to get fresh in the zoo full of trees, lakes and green areas. Children are looking forward to the next day as the afternoon will be about shopping and buying gifts.

4th day – “Since we arrived in Berlin, time is running and it is hard to believe that Thursday is over, too. There is always a sight to see after the language lessons which are partly about History. One evening we could see Berlin with the evening lights from a 363 m high TV Tower and the other day we visited a museum, where the exhibition was about the history of the Berlin Wall. History just restored to life there and we could get closer with a hair’s breadth to understand how it was and why people were trying to get to the other side of the Wall that much. After this heavy program we visited the Trabant Museum as the close of the day. We could flow back to times which are well-known and loved by our parents and grandparents. We have a couple of the days left for the large amount of sights and everyone is excited what other things Berlin can offer us.” Bianka Járay

5th day – It was quite a special day as we celebrated Judit’s birthday as she has returned 18 and entered the “adults’ world”. First, our German teacher, Peter surprised her with cookies, then Ms. Judit and Ms. Márti took us to a special place. It was the heaven of Ritter Sport chocolate, where we also surprised Judit. After tasting and buying some chocolate, the next station the Berlin Cathedral was. It was amazing to see this monumental building. After climbing up the stairs we could see Berlin from high again. Finally, we got some free time and as the close of the day we had a grill party in the schoolyard. Dániel Ihász

6th day – The last day was about history again. In the morning we could see an underground bunker-system, so we imagined how terrible people’s life could have been during war time. Then we visited a lager and a museum in Sachenhausen, where a more tragic past had been waiting for us. We learned numerous new things today, too, but we won’t get over this experience easily. Tomorrow will be about travelling. We are so tired, but it was worth doing this as we learned a lot and had plenty of unforgettable memories during this week. Thank you for the opportunity!
