The Spring Miracle Tree
Within the framework of the Miracle Tree project, in March, we visited the Szent Ferenc Elderly Home in Jászberény again to surprise the residents once more. Just like the previous visit, we were eagerly anticipating this one with our youngest Csányi companions. Our work was assisted by volunteer Katalin Fülöpné Paksi. Before the creative session, the young members of the Jászság 2nd group presented their musical performance, welcoming spring with poems and group singing.
In the Jászság 3rd group, we, as 11th-grade students, coordinate the activities as junior mentors because art has been close to us for years, and we have already familiarized ourselves with various techniques. Within the project framework, we, along with the 5th and 8th-grade group members, prepared spring leaves and flowers for the elderly. During the visits, the residents not only have the opportunity to admire the artworks but also decorate the completed trees surrounded by Zenilia wire together. First, we dismantled the winter decoration, then we collectively dressed the 6 trees in their new spring attire. On such visits, we try to improve the residents’ mental concentration and also engage them in minimal physical activity. This was the first time that the brave volunteers could try felting. The cheerful time spent together provides unforgettable experiences for both the elderly and the young every time!
But why is it called the Miracle Tree? During the sessions at our community center, the little ones can create together and learn about felting techniques. Alongside this, their empathy also develops. They can learn the joy of bringing happiness to others. The project has regular and goal-oriented sessions because it is very important for us to show our care for the elderly and to do it in a cheerful way. Besides, we also find it important to shape the creative themes in harmony with nature and to assist everyone in achieving spiritual alignment.
The project continues, and we have many more ideas that we would like to realize together! – Tamasi Tilda, Jászság 3rd group
