Our Zagyva river
On March 20, 2025, the Civil City Marketing Roundtable organized a conference entitled “Our Zagyva”. The natural science project group of the Csányi Foundation’s Jászberény Community House was also invited to the event, and students were asked to give a presentation. The host of the event was Zoltán István Szabovik, head of the Civil City Marketing Roundtable. We heard many interesting presentations, such as: the European Union’s biodiversity strategy, Natural values and their protection along the Zagyva, or The potential for tourism on the Lower Zagyva section.
During the conference, we also presented the project that began in 2019 in the Jászberény community house, the examination of water and the water of the Zagyva. During the project sessions, we collected water samples on several occasions, each time measuring the pH value, the chemical substances dissolved in the water, and using a microscope, we were able to find even the smallest living creatures. We presented the measurement results of the 2024/2025 academic year to the audience, as well as the conclusions drawn from the results.
We also presented the flora and fauna of the Belső-Zagyva backwater in Jászberény thanks to our own pictures. Our presentation was enriched by: beavers, grass carp, carp, mallards, and the most common plant species: reed, coastal sedge, water sedge, willow, and nettle. It was a great opportunity for me and my group mates to present the results of our research work as speakers at such a high-quality event today. Thank you for the opportunity, and we would like to thank our volunteer Terézia Csörgő for her preparatory work! (Anna Ágnes Oláh, Jászság group 4)
