Genius Loci exhibition
On January 31, members of the Pécs 3 and Pécs 1 groups visited the Janus Pannonius Museum Visitor Center, where we gained insight into segments of our local, specific history. The exhibition halls represent geographical locations where far-reaching events took place. The exhibition, built from the collections of archaeology, local history, and ethnography, is introduced to visitors by the figures who lived through or envisioned these events—our very own geniuses. Their spirit and legacy, we hope, will deepen the sense of belonging to Pécs and Baranya and enhance the experience of this region’s cultural diversity. The exhibition is composed of materials from three museum disciplines—archaeology, local history, and ethnography. The thematic sections are named after locations in Pécs and Baranya, which, due to the events that took place there, have gained significance beyond their immediate locality. We all enriched ourselves with fantastic experiences.

This is how we saw it…
“Today, we visited the Janus Pannonius Museum for the Genius Loci exhibition. The exhibition presents historical periods through various short stories and artifacts from the era. Interactive puzzles made the experience even more exciting. The main attraction was the bust of Marcus Aurelius, about which we also learned a great deal. We discovered many interesting facts about people who lived during that time and gained insight into what life was like back then. We also saw a lot of armor and combat equipment. It was fascinating to see the different weapons and realize how much things have changed over time. I really enjoyed this exhibition and hope that, through the Foundation, we will have the opportunity to visit many more museums like this.”
