Budapest International Documentary Festival
Today, the Jászság 3 group discussed our future plans, including higher education applications, final exams, and our roles within the foundation. After our discussion, we visited the Lehel Film Theatre to watch the documentary Mermaids in the Storm, screened as part of the Budapest International Documentary Film Festival.
The film follows the lives of Ukrainian sisters Maryna and Vladyslava Aleksiiva, professional synchronized swimmers, as they train for the Olympics while enduring the emotional toll of war. Through their story, we gained insight into daily life in a city under constant bombardment, the struggles of elite athletes, and the immense determination required for this demanding lifestyle. Additionally, we explored the complex yet fascinating world of synchronized swimming.
Following the screening, we attended a discussion with film critic Pál Gerdesits, who shared his thoughts and interpretations of the documentary. This provided us with a deeper understanding of the film from a professional perspective, further enriching our cinematic experience.
Back at the community house, we continued discussing the film for another half an hour—it left a profound impact on us.
Thank you to the Foundation for this meaningful afternoon!
