Commemoration of the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence
“The Pécs groups of the Csányi Foundation, after the afternoon activities, commemorated the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence together at the city event on March 15th. Participants gathered at the Petőfi statue in ’48 Square, and the event commenced with a horse-drawn hussar procession accompanied by music. At 5:00 p.m., the official program began with revolutionary poems and a mayoral address, which concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at Kossuth Square. Many participants arrived to pay their respects, and the colors of red, white, and green dominated the square. Recalling the events of 176 years ago was not only useful for graduating students but also contributed to the patriotic education of elementary school students. It was emphasized in the address that our youth, with their talent and determination, are capable of changing many things and thus serving the development of our country, just as the young revolutionaries did back in March. It’s important to highlight that wearing the cockade on this day signifies not only a tradition but also a commemoration of our ancestors, the people who sacrificed their lives for our nation.” Pécs Groups
