SUNNY FAMILY DAY OUT
On the last Saturday of September, there was a lot to do for those who arrived at the community house in the morning. Fortunately, many people were involved in the preparations, and so began the setting up of the tables and the craft booths, the cutting of meat, the peeling of onions, and the preparation of lunch. Meanwhile, we were able to chat and get to know the younger siblings of the university students who had also come to help. When we finished, the others arrived, many of them with their homemade ’cookie-wonders’. After lunch, we listened to Mentor Gyöngyi’s information about the language exams and the Parents’ Academy on Wednesday. After that, there was a craft session where we could paint pebbles, and those who didn’t want to grab a paintbrush opted for talking or socialising. Then came a presentation by Berta, one of our university students, with some shocking data. Her presentation was about safe driving and the causes of traffic accidents. So much damage could be so easily prevented if a few basic rules were followed. I was shocked to see how many accidents are caused by the lack of adherence to speed limits and by people who use their phones while driving. What I learned that day is that the driver on the right always has the right of way, unless a sign indicates otherwise. The rest of the evening was spent playing freely and packing. Our parents also had a great time, it was well after dark by the time we headed home.
