Active recreation at Lake Balaton
“After the week-long competition and graduation exams, we had the opportunity to visit Lake Balaton, Keszthely and its surroundings for a relaxing weekend full of activities. On Friday we set off, our afternoon activity was a cookout. Of course, the evening conversation was not to be missed. The next day we visited Zalaszántó and saw the Peace Stupa. We touched the cylinders of the prayer mummies, thus paying homage to their tradition by saying a “prayer” and at the same time banishing bad karmas. Our journey then took us to Festetics Castle, where we walked around the castle gardens and admired the design. We learnt that the garden was declared a nature reserve, and that it was reconstructed and enlarged in the 1880s, after major alterations and extensions. After a short trip, we walked along the shores of Lake Balaton, where the braver ones could dip their feet into the very cold water. Afterwards, we went to the nearby Festetics lookout, where we had a bird’s eye view of the landscape. In the evening, all that was left to do was to cook together, then we had a well-deserved dinner and, of course, reminiscing about old times and telling stories. Thanks again to our mentor for letting us come here and organising this for us, so that we could at least get away from the hustle and bustle of times gone by.”
