Open Day in Pécs
“On Saturday 4 February, we held an open day for children applying for Admission, their parents and teachers. During the open day, we provided detailed information about the Selection process and the Csányi Foundation’s operational procedures. Afterwards, Ivett Majoros, a member of the Pécs 3 group, told us about her personal experience of her primary, secondary and first two university years with the support of the Csányi Foundation. After the presentation, all questions were answered. The programme continued with interactive sessions. Visitors were given an insight into the drama, science, 3D printing, maths-logic and history project sessions. How we saw it….
“We have inaugurated the Drama Hall! It was a great feeling to play drama games in the multifunctional room of the brand new community centre during the open day for children interested in the Foundation. All the groups from Pécs really put themselves out there. They played name learning, concentration building and perception games as they did when they were freshmen. Even the children who had just arrived were quickly absorbed, and after fifteen minutes it was impossible to tell the Chania children from the guests. Following the tradition of the selection, the parents were not without their “drama”, but they didn’t need to be bothered, as everyone loves to play. At the end of the day, the participants and I were pleased to conclude that the session had achieved its purpose, as we will be able to use the experience we gained from the applicants in the selection process.” Drama teacher Zoltán Papp
“3D printing at the Open Day : In today’s 3D session we joined the science session and made a 3D model of DNA. The students and their families who attended the open day were able to get an insight into the design and printing process. I think the session achieved its goal and the prospective Little Chaniacs enjoyed it and are looking forward to working together.” Peter Dlusztus
“History escape room. Fortunately, no one was “stuck” in the room, because they solved the tasks required for the escape well and got out. The tasks included pairing authentic objects to the eras, such as a Roman fibula to the Antiquity, antlers to the Prehistory, etc. After completing this, they had to find kings from a summary rap-style video of Hungarian history and solve a quiz on the theme of conquest and geographical discoveries on Wordwall and the interactive Learningapps platform. Finally, the door was opened with a game of Kahoot and the pupils were free to continue with their sessions. Children interested in learning more also joined in the exercises and gave proof of their surprising knowledge. The teams’ results were ranked and announced at the end of the day. It was a fun but useful Turkish session, aimed at both school-leavers and younger children.” András Gál, mentor
