Eco-Friday, Eco-Saturday-Family Day in Szentes
On the fourth weekend of October, Group 1 from Szentes worked again within the “Health and Environment” project. After the Friday sessions, the children stayed in the community centre for a sleepover. The tea leaves we had picked up at the summer camp were retrieved from the attic and we started to crumble them. We had such a good harvest of lemongrass and mint this year that it will last us for a year! As usual, individual labels were placed on the filled bags. Meanwhile, the girls in the kitchen were busy kneading and rising dough, chopping toppings and treating the hungry party to eight pizzas. The tired group ended the day with an evening movie, but some had already fallen asleep during it…
On Saturday, the almost summer-like warm weather favoured the outdoor episodes of our programmes. After the previous day’s sleepover, we packed up, got dressed up, and after half an hour of warm-up walks or football, we had our mentoring session, where, in addition to learning, prevention was again an important part. Then the parents arrived to help with the proceedings at each of the work stations set up, some of them cooking lunch.
The adults’ station made homemade soap: an environmentally friendly, versatile and inexpensive cleaning product that has been undeservedly forgotten in recent times. We made so much that everyone will have plenty when it runs dry.
The girls sewed a facial cleansing wipe with adult help: the eco-friendly, reusable and washable tool comes in two patterns for boys and girls.
The boys first made moulds by recycling construction waste. They measured, sawed and nailed with enthusiasm. Then they were ready to make the vegetable charcoal and tea soap, a cosmetic soap that is useful for the effective treatment of acne-prone facial skin.
After the work was finished, lunch was ready: we were stuffed with delicious paprika potato stew, and the parents also provided cake. It was a great pleasure to see the teamwork and the joint activities on Family Day, which were enjoyed by the youngest siblings and a big thank you to all the families for their help. – Sándor Kovács, mentor

“Summary of the Family Day: After crumbling tea leaves and the girls prepared pizzas for dinner, they ended the day by watching a movie together.
After waking up in the morning and breakfast, there was a free session, and after the parents arrived around 10am, the Family Day began, with the girls sewing face cleansing cloths and the boys pouring soap. Meanwhile, the parents cleaned and chopped the ingredients for lunch, and then the potatoes with paprika were cooked in the pot. Those who were interested could also learn the skills of making homemade soap with the help of the mentor, Sándor’s wife Dorka. The children could also draw, play football and talk. We think everyone had a great time. Thank you! It was great to be together again!”-Viktória Soós, Dávid Rickert
