World of Foreign Languages and Cultures project in Nagybajom
In June 2022, we closed the World of Foreign Languages and Cultures project in English and German in Nagybajom for this academic year. The aim of the project was to give students from Nagybajom the opportunity to learn about the culture and customs of foreign countries, especially England and Germany. It is important that they expand their vocabulary, their range of expressions and that they do not feel like foreigners during their study trips abroad. In addition to colourful exercises and working methods, the project lessons also helped them to develop their communication skills. Groups from Nagybajom 1 and Nagybajom 2, who are studying English and German, took part in the project.
“My aim was to give the pupils an insight into the country, to give them an experience of how people live in German-speaking areas, what typical customs and linguistic turns of phrase are typical of the people who live there. I tried to design varied and busy tasks. We worked on topics related to the everyday life of Germans. The topic of country knowledge allows us to address students through other channels. The age of the students allowed us to discuss deeper themes such as solidarity, empathy, community, patriotism, perseverance and friendship. Another important aim was to practise everyday situations in German, such as booking a trip to a travel agency, booking a hotel room, planning the details of a trip. In the sessions we used situational exercises, made posters, listened to digital information and prepared a presentation on the topic. We worked in groups and in pairs.” Andrea Dénesné Szak
“Our aim was to go beyond the basic information and to gain a deeper and more detailed knowledge of the UK, as it is a complementary material for the students to learn about the UK in school. During the sessions, we learned about the sights, the Ozone project, famous resorts, food and living conditions in the UK. We read articles, browsed the internet and made word pictures. We finished the project with a quiz to see who remembered what they had learnt and what had piqued their interest.” Anett Kiss
