Participation on the programmes of Researchers’ Night in Pécs

The fourth Friday of September in 2013 is devoted for the researchers. More than 70 institutes joined the programme this year. The public could select from different programmes – experiments, lectures, exhibitions – from early evening to late night. In Pécs, two main venues offered the programmes this year.

In the University of Pécs, we saw many interesting physical experiments. During the lecture, we experienced how it is possible to build a wall-to-wall balloon or how an impatient person opens champagne bottle. Also turned out the trick to have a higher pitched voice than we really have. In addition, by popular request, the researchers made a -200C cold room.
During our tour in the green houses and in the botanical garden we got many interesting information besides the view that waited us there. In the beginning, the park was the garden of Jesuit Pius Secondary High School. It was turned into a botanical garden in 1957 after the foundation of Biology Faculty of Pedagogy Collage.
Functionally, now it is part of Faculty of Sciences Department of Systematic and Ecological Botany and Botanical Garden but financially, it belongs to the Department of Financial and Human Resources Management. The area was announced as natural preserve are of the county in 1989. On the 5.2 acres area there are more than 1200 trees and bushes and around 2000 perennial plants.
Its cactus and succulent plant collection introduces more than 1200 species like Aizoaceae, Agavaceae, Aloaceae, Asclepiadaceae, Crassulaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Liliaceae families. The palm house has about 500 tropical plants just as Cyperus, Hibiscus, Musa, Peperomia, Philodendron, Pilea, Sansevieria, Streptocarpus and other species including various orchid species.
This year we took part in the central programmes of Tempus Public Foundation in Zsolnay district. We saw printing 3D objects with the application of FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) technology. This prototype is suitable to print everyday objects, gifts and special developmental objects. We had an insight in the secrets of Islamic tile decoration and we could play with the gigantic puzzle in the Experience Workshop.
We drove pneumatic car and could try how loud we can shout this night. We were part of a round table discussion, which detailed the causes of WWI.
This was the first time when family members could came with us to see the newest results of technology.
