Shared Family Day in Szeged
Garden Cleaning in the Community House of Szeged
We woke up for a bit gloom morning and even some rain drops tried to scare away the parents, grandparents and children on their way to the Community House of Szeged where we had our shared family day. At 8 o’clock in the morning the elder Csányi students started preparing sandwiches with Ms Piroska for the arriving guests. At 8:30, everyone was ready for today’s challenge, to clear up the garden.
The first group of parents started cleaning up the front yard. They dug the weedy plots, planted plants next to the drive way, re-planted the lilies from under the bushes to a more spacious and airy place and trimmed the scruffy hedge along the pedestrian path. The debris of a neighbouring tree torn out by the storm last weekend was cleared away as well. The youngest siblings took out their part from the work. They helped weeding, kept the trash bags open for the parents and carried the necessary tools to their destinations.
The next target was the back yard. The children during the breaks between the developmental lessons also helped in the work. They were weeding, digging and pulled out the roots of a tree from the area where Mr Peti designed our new vegetable garden. The parents and Mr Zoli grabbed the spades and dug up the plot, the youngest kids helped to rake the area flat. There were some dead trees in the back of the garden, which required more sophisticated tools. Turuczki Szabolcs’s parents helped us out with a Stihl saw and the trunks of the trees are now the fences of the new vegetable garden.
Today, all the groups had their natural science lessons in the garden. The youngest children planted different seeds while the older students cultivated out the compost or painted and transformed the old car tires into pots with many nice summer flowers in them. Meanwhile the parents were sweeping the back yard, trimmed the bushes and another group prepared our lunch.
By lunch time everyone was tired enough to relax a bit and enjoy the delicious meal in the nice clean garden in the summer-like heat. After lunch, the parents washed the dishes, cleaned up the kitchen and the downstairs. After the last developmental lesson the children found a brand new, clean and neat garden. Obviously, the lake was cleaned and freshened.
The mentors of the Community House of Szeged would like to express their gratitude for the help of the parents and children!
