Robin Cathey in Nagybajom
My name is Robin Cathey and I am a Fulbright English Teacher working with Roma students in Pécs. Today I had the pleasure of meeting the talented young people of Csányi Alapítvány in Nagybajom.I shared with them some pictures of my home state of Georgia as we discussed culturally signficant facts and events. We delved deeper by discussing the civil rights movement and the issues minorities still face in today’s society. The students shared thoughtful insights into their own experiences and observations while challenging each other to think consider other points of view. After my presentation, students worked in small groups to develop a presentation about important aspects of Hungary as they see it.
I was struck by the cozy, intimate atmosphere of the Csányi Alapítvány of Nagybajom and how staff work to nuture this space. This is truly a remarkable institution and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit!
