Tuning in for the New Year
This year’s “tuning in for the New Year”, i.e. our traditional New Year’s Eve party, fell on December 28. Many of us gathered for the evening party, after the greeting hugs, the group split into two. Upstairs, the “adults” (or rather, the young people from a long time ago), the parents and our mentor Sasa, talked and enchanted us with the delicacies of my spread-out table. As we could judge from the voices filtering through, they mentioned events of the year that resulted in loud laughter – sorry, huge laughs. Their good mood lasted until midnight.
We, the “young people of a little while,” socialized downstairs in the basement hall. We often mention socializing in our reports, but we haven’t yet told you what we usually play. Perhaps the most common is the card game called Be on the Lookout!, which is based on the 1982 film The Thing. Two teams face each other, the researchers (humans) and the Thing and those infected by it. The goal is for the humans to guess who the Thing is and eliminate them from the game before it infects everyone. Another favorite of ours is Bang!, in which different roles (sheriff, deputy sheriff, renegade, and bandit) clash for control of the Wild West. Depending on the role, a round can end very quickly, so you can play fast and exciting matches in a few minutes. This time we also tried a new board game, which I suggested to the team, called Blood on the Clocktower. Those who are familiar with the “the city sleeps” or “werewolf” games may be familiar with the concept, as it is the intertwining of these two ideas, only with more complex characters. The gameplay is divided into night and day phases, at night the players secretly perform their character’s actions, and then during the day they discuss what happened and who to vote out. The goal is to find out who is lying, who is the demon that we need to expel from our city. The new game was received with great enthusiasm, so we will definitely play it again. Apart from the board games, the evening was spent in a great atmosphere, we hardly wanted to get up from the table after midnight, so this occasion gave everyone a cheerful end to the year. Our program, which can now be considered traditional, was a worthy end to our year.
